A man charged with first-degree murder in Smyth County, Va. was arrested by Johnson City police Saturday after being released from Johnson City Medical Center, where he was being treated for a gunshot wound.
According to a city police news release, Gary Wayne Brown, 48, 169 Sundancer Drive, Chilhowie, Va. Brown was picked up by police after he was released from JCMC and charged with being a fugitive from justice.
Brown was wanted in connection with the shooting death of Steven Neal Williams, 38, 365 Sunrise Lane, Chilhowie, Va., on Monday, Smyth County officials said.
The Smyth County Sheriff’s Department said Brown left the slaying scene in his own vehicle. He was taken to Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon and transferred to JCMC for treatment of a gunshot wound.
Brown was one of four people charged in Williams’ death.
Brown was taken to the Washington County Detention Center and was being held on $100,000 bond, pending an appearance in Sessions Court Monday at 1:30 p.m.
