ELIZABETHTON — A man who was wanted by the Carter County Sheriff's Department on a violation of probation warrant faced additional charges after Carter County deputies said he tried to hide in his basement with his two small children.
Deputy Nick Andes reported he went to 128 Honeycutt St. around 2 a.m. Monday to serve the violation of probation warrant on Joshua Pearce, 33. While knocking on the door, Andes said he saw a man on a bed in the basement.
After attempting to get someone to the door for several minutes, Andes said, he went through an open window into the basement. As he and Sgt. Kenny Cornett searched the house and basement, Andes said, he found Pearce hiding in a basement shower stall.
Andes said because Pearce put not only himself in danger by hiding but also his two children, aged 8 and 7, he charged Pearce with two counts of attempted child endangerment and one count of evading arrest.
Pearce is scheduled to answer the charges in Sessions Court on Dec. 11.
