Roan Mountain man faces meth charges

ELIZABETHTON —A Roan Mountain man was arrested Wednesday on 26 counts of promotion of methamphetamine manufacture.

Jim Chambers, 25, 108 Paul Blevins Road, Roan Mountain, was also charged with violation of probation. He was arrested in Duffield, Va. by Carter County Deputy Mike Townsend.

The methamphetamine charges came from a grand jury indictment in July. Chambers is accused of purchasing cold medicine containing pseudoephedrine on 26 occasions Oct. 4, 2010 and May 21, 2011. The purchases were allegedly made at Walgreens, CVS, Walmart and Rite Aid pharmacies in Elizabethton.

The investigation of the alleged purchases was conducted by Sgt. Harmon Duncan of the sheriff's department.

Judge Lynn Brown set Chambers' bond at $200,000.
