Blountville man faces carjacking, other charges; flees police in three jurisdictions

A Blountville man is facing a litany of charges after allegedly stealing a van in Greene County — which soon ran out of gas, prompting him to carjack a woman outside of Kingsport — and later attempting to remove a third victim from her car in a parking lot.

Charles Stanley III, 38, of 544 Barger Hollow Road, was taken into custody shortly before 5:30 p.m., after wrecking a stolen Geo Prizm on Rock City Road. In Sullivan County Stanley is charged with motor vehicle theft, carjacking, assault, theft over $10,000 and theft under $50.

The Sullivan County Sheriff's Office reports the incident began earlier in the afternoon along Interstate 81 in Greene County, Tenn., where Stanley had stolen a van. Information on that incident, and what may have prompted it, has yet to be released.
