Johnson City police arrested a Greeneville man Tuesday following an accusation that he robbed a city resident of his Jeep in August.
Tommy Fay Griffin, 46, 131 Mason St., Greeneville, was charged with aggravated robbery.
On Aug. 27, Gustavo Garcia, 42, told police he had been near the Cherry Street lot in downtown Johnson City when two people approached him with an offer to sell him steaks for $10.
Garcia told police he offered to give the pair a ride to his home to get the money and return them to the Cherry Street lot. At Garcia’s Oakcliff Court residence, the pair grabbed him and took him outside. One broke a wine bottle to use as a weapon, and the pair stole his 2011 Jeep SAH, his cell phone and several bottles of alcoholic beverages, police said in a report,
On Sept. 13, police were notified that Garcia’s vehicle had been found in Asheville, N.C., and returned it to him.
Griffin was arrested at the Buncombe County Detention Center in Asheville. He was later brought to the Washington County Detention Center and held on $25,000 bond. He was arraigned Wednesday in Sessions Court.
