Prep roundup: Boone escapes with win

Daniel Boone overcame five turnovers to escape with a 21-13 victory over Volunteer on Friday night in Gray.
The Trailblazers — who hadn’t had a turnover all season — outgained the Falcons 328-110, but the mistakes kept the game close.
Volunteer took advantage of Boone’s final turnover to get a 4-yard touchdown from Hunter Lawson and pull within one point at 14-13 with 8:38 left to play.
From there, the ’Blazers put together a nine-play, 65-yard drive to pull away as Dustin Chandler ran 18 yards and dove into the endzone with 5:07 on the clock.
Cliff Sanders led Boone with 146 rushing yards and a touchdown on 21 carries. Jake Littleton threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Michael Osterman to put Boone ahead for good in the second quarter.
Sam Barton came up with a huge play for the Falcons, returning an interception 60 yards for a TD in the first half.

Tennessee High 43, David Crockett 0
Peyton Henley threw for 122 yards and two touchdowns as the Vikings rolled through Jonesborough with a win over the Pioneers in the Big Eight Conference opener for both teams.
Henley threw for the scores in the second quarter, and Tennessee High took a 36-0 lead into the locker room. Henley’s scoring passes were 17 yards to Logan Downs and 10 yards to Brady Harman.
Tennessee High ran for 208 yards on 44 attempts, and limited David Crockett to 17 yards on 32 carries. Chris Brooks, Treyvond Delaney and Kullen Wells each ran for a touchdown.
Adam Mitchell returned a fumble recovery 18 yards for a touchdown, and Erick Sampson got a safety.

Hampton 49, Cosby 7
COSBY — Lane Smith rushed for four touchdowns and passed for another, adding three interceptions on the defensive end, to lift the Bulldogs to a Mountain East Conference win.
Jerry Lunsford had Hampton’s final touchdown on a 73-yard run in the fourth quarter. Tyler Chambers was 7-for-7 on extra points.

Cloudland 60, Hancock County 0
SNEEDVILLE — The Highlanders piled up over 600 yards, all on the ground, in the Mountain East Conference win.
Taylor Whitehead led the way with 19 carries for 277 yards and four touchdowns. Jeffery Rhinehart had nine rushes for 152 yards and two TDs, while Colby Birchfield ran 10 times for 117 yards and a touchdown.
Austin Whitehead ran 50 yards for a touchdown on his only carry.
Mason Carnett led Cloudland’s defense with eight tackles and two sacks.

Tri-Cities Christian 32, Kings Academy 20
Evan Blakenship had a game for the ages, rushing for 324 yards and five touchdowns to lead Tri-Cities Christian.
Jaque Jones had 105 yards in returns, Eefan Sanders had 11 tackles and John Dawson blocked a field goal for the Eagles (1-1).

North Greene 29, Unaka 0
GREENEVILLE — Tanner O’Laughlin led a third-quarter attack to give the Huskies a Mountain East Conference win against the Rangers.
Leading 3-0 at halftime, North Greene scored three touchdowns in the third to puall away. O’Laughlin connected with Codie Coleman twice, and Mason Early ran in a score.
O’Laughlin, who was 5-for-12 for 127 yards, had another TD pass in the fourth.
