A Norfolk Southern Railway train was forced to stop alongside Buffalo Street near the main stage of the Umoja Festival Friday night, after it came in contact with a parked car, Johnson City police said.
According to Sgt. Van Mominee, the train and the car collided around 7:48 p.m.
“Somebody parked their car too close to the tracks,” Mominee said. “There are no injuries. It was a parked car.”
He said the car was parked close to Free Service Tire near Wilson Avenue when it was struck by the train moving through downtown. He said they were hoping to get the train moving in about an hour.
