Our congratulations go out to Woodland Elementary second-grade teacher Nancy Miles on being named the top elementary teacher in East Tennessee. We also wish the Johnson City educator all the best as she now vies to become Tennessee’s Teacher of the Year.
We believe there is no doubt Miles is one of the best teachers in Tennessee. We are also pretty confident that the same can be said of many of her colleagues in the Johnson City School System.
Miles represents all the dedicated teachers of this city. As Miles explained to Press staff writer Madison Mathews earlier this week, being in the running for the prestigious title allows her to be “the face” of the school system.
Miles, who has taught at Woodland for eight years, worked in marketing for about 15 years before being hired by Johnson City Schools in 2003.
“I don’t feel like there’s anything special that I do, but I feel very fortunate and privileged to represent the hard-working teachers that we have at not only this school but across the district,” Miles told the Press this week.
