Snow is getting way too involved with the District 1-AA basketball tournament at Happy Valley.
Once again, tournament officials were forced to postpone a night's worth of games, calling things off for Thursday.
The event is now scheduled to start Friday with three girls games, beginning at 5 p.m. (Sullivan North vs. Sullivan East) and following with games at 6:30 (Johnson County vs. Sullivan South) and 8 o'clock (Happy Valley vs. Unicoi County). The boys will start Saturday with three games.
As for District 1-AAA, Thursday's games were postponed. They will be played Friday at 6 (Tennessee High vs. Central) and 7:30 p.m. (Science Hill vs. Volunteer) at Viking Hall in Bristol.
The 1-AAA is looking at four semifinal contests for Saturday to get things back on track. Girls semifinals will be at 2 (Science Hill vs. Daniel Boone) and 3:30 p.m. (Volunteer vs. Dobyns-Bennett). Boys semifinals will be at 5 p.m. (D-B vs. David Crockett) at 6:30 p.m. (TH-Central winner vs. SH-Vol winner).
If the snow continues to wreak havoc with the 1-AA event, forcing another postponement Friday, tournament officials have decided on a six-game slate for Saturday with three girls games and three boys games.
As for the rest of the tournament, the TSSAA has granted permission to 1-AA for more than two games on a weeknight. Therefore, all four semifinal games will be played Monday with girls games at 4 and 7, and boys games at 5:30 and 8:30.
That's kind of a throwback to the old days of district tournaments, where four games a night was a common practice in all districts.
On Tuesday, all of the third-place and championship games have been scheduled. The third-place games will be held at 4 (girls) and 5:30 (boys) while the championship contests are scheduled for 7 (girls) and boys (8:30).
District 1-A starts Friday -- weather permitting, of course!
