BIRMINHAM, Ala. — Another game, another shutout for the East Tennessee State men’s soccer team.And this one came against a big-time opponent.In their first ever meeting against a top-10 foe, the Bucs held No. 8 UAB and its high powered offense to eight shots Sunday in a 1-0 victory on the Blazers’ home field. The Bucs (2-1-2) have recorded four consecutive shutouts and are unbeaten (3-0-3) in their last six games against Top 25 opponents.Scoreless in the 62nd minute, the Bucs received a gift as a UAB defender, trying to clear the ball steered it into his team’s own goal.Entering the contest, the Blazers (3-1-1) were tied for the nation’s lead in scoring at 3.67 goals per game. ETSU goalkeeper Ryan Coulter earned his 19th career shutout, ranking fourth in Atlantic Sun Conference history. The native of Dublin, Ireland, and reigning Atlantic Sun goalkeeper of the year, has a goal-against average of 0.18 and .941 save percentage.The victory marks the second time in as many years the Bucs have defeated a ranked UAB squad. Last season, ETSU beat 17th-ranked UAB 1-0 in double overtime.ETSU will look to extend a six-match home unbeaten streak against Furman Friday at 7 p.m.
