Dobyns-Bennett revs up for ’Toppers

KINGSPORT — Dobyns-Bennett didn’t reach 70 points, but continued its dominating play with its third shutout of the season.
The Indians crushed Volunteer 43-0 on Friday night in their last game before meeting Science Hill for the Big Eight Conference title next week.
Malik Foreman ran for three touchdowns and the Indians racked up 300 total yards, including 228 on the ground. Devaun Swafford, Zack Casey and Seth Barger ran in touchdowns. Swafford also threw a 2-point conversion pass to Sam Stewart.
Sullivan Central 54, David Crockett 32
BLOUNTVILLE — Gavin Smith ran for 127 yards and three touchdowns to lift the Cougars to their first Big Eight Conference win of the season in a matchup of the league’s last-place teams.
The Pioneers lost three fumbles and were penalized 13 times for 121 yards.
Chevy Miller had 15 carries for 94 yards and two touchdowns for Crockett and a pair of two-point conversions. Ryan Burger also ran in a score, and connected with Devin Walker for a touchdown and two more two-point conversion passes.
J.I. Burton, Va. 21, Johnson County 12
NORTON, Va. — The Raiders took a 14-0 lead with a pair of Malik Miles touchdown runs before Tyler Justiano put away the Longhorns with a third-quarter, 44-yard fumble return for a score.
Warren Kerley had a 1-yard scoring run and a 3-yard TD pass to River Cazie for Johnson County (4-5). Timmy Bellamy finished with 77 receiving yards on four catches and Patrick South rushed 15 times for 63 yards.
Greeneville 48, Grainger 7
RUTLEDGE — Tanner Stewart ran for 196 yards and Zack Finchum accounted for five touchdowns to help the Greene Devils remain unbeaten in the Blue Ridge Conference with the win over the Grizzlies.
Stewart carried the ball 18 times, including a 61-yard run, as Greeneville totaled 338 rushing yards. Stewart also ran in a fourth-quarter touchdown.
Grainger’s Lance Morton made 7-of-23 passes for 119 yards, including a 38-yard TD strike to Josh Kitts.
Unicoi County 40, Unaka 19
ERWIN — Keith Arrowood scored three touchdowns and the Blue Devils cruised to the non-conference win over the Rangers.
Arrowood’s scores came on a pair of passes from Lucas Hensley, one for 64 yards and another for 24, and an 85-yard kickoff return.
Hunter Abbott added two rushing touchdowns on short runs. Unicoi County led 40-6 at the half.
Unaka got touchdowns from Eli Rasnick, Tyler Hatfield and Andy Quinn.
Cloudland 34, Sullivan East 6
ROAN MOUNTAIN — Quarterback Jeffrey Rhinehart had 14 carries for 138 yards including a pair of 23-yard touchdown runs to lift the Highlanders over the winless Patriots.
Taylor Whitehead had 98 rushing yards and scored Cloudland’s only first-half touchdown on a 17-yard run. He added an 84-yard kickoff return to open the second half, kicked two extra-points and ran in a two-point conversion.
Whitehead also had an interception on defense.
Sullivan East successfully controlled the clock in the first half, running 31 plays to 16 for the Highlanders. Toby Echevarria scored on an 11-yard run to keep the Patriots within a score late in the third quarter.
On defense, Mason Carnett had 15 tackles, Zac Benfield had 11 tackles and Punky Rhinehart had 10 to lead the Cloudland defense. Freshman Colby Birchfield added a 64-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.
