South ends Boone's run

KINGSPORT — Sullivan South qualified for the TSSAA state semifinals for the third time in school history Friday night, and ended Daniel Boone’s dream season in the process.

The Rebels beat the Trailblazers 34-21 in front of an overflowing crowd Friday night at Carl Matherly Stadium. The ’Blazers, picked fifth in a preseason poll of Big Eight Conference coaches, finished a memorable year, which included the school’s first 10-win season and victories over Dobyns-Bennett, Science Hill and Tennessee High. In its first year competing in Class 5A, Boone made it to the quarterfinal round of the playoffs for the first time since 1999.
