Before I begin let me say that I am not some anti-gun crusader. I own both a shotgun and a Winchester rifle, and in the past have owned handguns.
But I think it is a shame and disgrace that we now live in a country where it is unsafe for children to go to school, for Christmas shoppers to go to a mall, or for those who enjoy a movie to attend the theater without fear of losing their lives.
Why has our country become so degraded? First, because the gun lobby has twisted the second amendment into something it was never meant to be. And secondly because in our pursuit of freedom to own and carry our “God given” handguns, we have given up our freedom to pursue life, liberty and happiness. It’s hard to pursue these things when we can’t go out in public without being armed.
The third reason it is unsafe to do ordinary things, like go to school or go shopping without fear of being shot, are our gutless state and federal legislators. Men and women elected to insure the safety of the people who vote for them, but who instead sell out to the gun lobby and a few unstable individuals who think guns have to be carried 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
I think every member of the gun lobby, and every legislator who has ever voted to allow guns in the hands of anyone with a photo ID should be forced to attend the funeral of every one of these precious children killed at Sandy Hook school. They should be forced to face the families who have been destroyed by their cowardice.
Even in the wild, wild West, Wyatt Earp took the cowboys’ guns when they came into town because he knew that all of us occasionally drink to much, say things we shouldn’t and get into arguments that can end in death when a gun is handy.

Yep, you are a anti-gun crusader and brain washed. Opened your mouth and proved it. First the "gun lobby" is not some sort of under ground operation. LOL The NRA is comprised of millions of Americans who Proudly support the 2nd Amendment. Your twisted statements make it sound as if everyone who legally carries a side arm is going to start random shooting. People who are armed and have carry permits protect themselves and innocent people around them. Nut cases will use ANY MEANS possible to carry out their crimes whether it's bombs, knives, baseball bats or guns. The statement "the only thing that stops a Bad guy with a gun is a Good guy with a gun" is true. Your statement of "forcing" the good people who try to Protect our "rights" to attend funerals is crazy. If anyone should be "forced" it would be the "freedom haters" who oppose Armed Police in our schools to protect our most precious children from Evil Monsters. Another thing, maybe YOU "occasionally drink to much" but do not put your personal problems on the rest of us!

I think we should go ahead and make murder illegal. That should solve the problem. Wait, it already is.

"the gun lobby has twisted the second amendment into something it was never meant to be"
You make this statement and then don't describe what the 2nd amendment was supposed to be about. I'd really like to hear your explanation. I'd then direct you to the writings of the founding fathers on their intents regarding the 2nd.
We do live in a dangerous world. Criminals break laws every day. They rape, steal and murder with impunity. Criminals and the mentally ill do not obey laws or "No guns allowed" signs.
And coward legislators? You want to see cowards, go to Illinois where they have no concealed carry and Cook county that leads the nation in gun violence. Go look at Chicago politicians and notice the security that those elected officials have around them 24/7. Protection from violence is okay for them but not the average citizen.
