Conservatives

Published December 14, 2012

The following is a response to Urs Gsteiger’s diatribe concerning Tennessee, Virginia, the Johnson City Press and Republicans in general. His complaining about the conservative editorials in the Press is a bit far-fetched. The editorial page is definitely left leaning. I have often wondered how the Press has been able to survive and prosper as a liberal organ in a strongly conservative section of the state.

As far as being anti-gay, most conservatives are not anti-gay. However, they do believe marriage should be between a man and woman.

We conservatives are not anti-immigrant. We are anti-illegal immigrant. It is estimated that we have been invaded across our southern border by 18 to 20 million people. Unfortunately, our government has done little to stem the tide. It is believed that these illegals will vote Democrat and perhaps many already have.

I also noticed in Gsteiger’s letter that he denigrated Gov. Bob McDonald of Virginia. Hey, why not demonize two Southern states instead of one?

As far as attacking the emerging leadership as being unable to have national success, this is bogus under leadership such as Gov. McDonald, Paul Ryan and Marco Rubio.

We will be successful in the next election cycles, especially if the Democrats under President Obama continue the failed policies that are radically taking over our country in the direction of Greece.

While this paper is more to the center than the others in the Tri-Cities, it is pretty hilarious to read comments of those accusing JP Press and KPT Times-News as being liberal because they occasionally print an AP headline that didn't tow their party line. Both of these papers have a right slant (especially KPT's) but at least they haven't fully become a part of the propaganda arm of the GOP.

Most conservatives are not ant-gay, they just support anti-gay laws.

"It is believed that these illegals will vote Democrat and perhaps many already have." - Yes, because voter fraud is such a huge problem, right? This is nothing but unfounded propaganda to encourage voter suppression.
