Juanita Singer Covington

Juanita Singer Covington, 87, formerly of Lexington, Kentucky, went home to be with the Lord on June 1, 2018 at The Waters Nursing Home in Johnson City, Tennessee.

Juanita was born in Lexington to the late Huston and Darmittie Singer. A graduate of Henry Clay High School, she started working at Ball Ice Cream Company at the age of 16.

In 1950 Juanita married Roy Franklin Covington, the love of her life. She worked at various places in Lexington, including Don Myers Shoe Store, Peter Pan Children's Shop and for Dr. Robert M. Sirkle. She began attending Porter Memorial Baptist Church as an infant and was a member there until 2015.

In 2014, Juanita moved to Johnson City, Tennessee to live near her daughter and her family. In 2015 she joined Central Baptist Church in Johnson City where she was a member of the Margaret McNees Sunday School Class.

She is survived by daughter Darlene Young and son-in-law Garland of Jonesborough, TN; granddaughters Lindsay Ann Young of Johnson City, TN and Alicia Staggs, Winchester, KY; son-in-law Larry Staggs, Lexington, KY; great-grandchildren Connor and Ada McKinney; brother Raymond Singer and wife Charlotte, Cynthiana, KY; numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Roy Franklin Covington, daughter Cindy Ann Covington Staggs, brothers James Edward Singer, Nelson C. Singer, Robert Coleman Singer, Huston Singer, Jr. and sisters LaVerne Webb Whitehead and Helen Vice.

Visitation will be Friday, June 8, 11:00 - 1:00 at Milward Funeral Home on Southland Drive in Lexington, Kentucky, with the funeral immediately following at 1:00. Interment service will be held in the mausoleum chapel at Bluegrass Memorial Gardens.
