Lavada C. Montgomery

 JOHNSON CITY - Lavada C. Montgomery, age 89, of Johnson City, went to her Heavenly Home, on Saturday, May 12, 2018, at the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital.

She was a daughter of the late James Spurgeon and Verna Perry Smith and was born in Sullivan County, although she lived most of her life in Carter County. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Montgomery, on January 30, 1999; an infant son, James Lee Montgomery; an infant granddaughter, Melinda Gail Leonard and a sister, Louise Mitchell.

Mrs. Montgomery was a member of East Watauga Baptist Church. She was a homemaker who loved to quilt, cook for her family and spoil her grandchildren.

Those left to cherish her memory include three daughters, Claudette Lewis and her husband, John, of Millington, TN; Vickie Ball and her husband, Jerry, of Jonesborough; JoAnn Leonard and her husband, Wayne, of Chesnee, SC; a son , Danny W. Montgomery and his wife, Retta, of Granite Falls, NC; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren: three sisters, Pansy Bare, of Bluff City; Betty Murray, of Elizabethton; Clara Lee Hall, of Bluff City; five brothers, J. Harold (Bud) Smith and his wife, JoAnn, of Bluff City; Lawrence (Pat) Smith and his wife, Roma ,of Johnson City; Wade Smith, of Bluff City; Lonnie Smith and his wife, Rose, of Bluff City; and Ivan Smith and his wife, Brenda, of Bluff City. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

A service to honor the life of Mrs. Montgomery will be conducted on Monday, May 14, 2018, at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of Peace, Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. Richard Blankenship officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 11:00 AM -1:00 PM on Monday prior to the service.

Interment will follow the funeral service at Washington County Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be selected from grandsons and great-grandsons.
