Charles Patrick McGrath

Charles McGrath, known as Pat, passed away early Saturday morning, January 13,2018 at the Johnson City Medical Center after a short battle with cancer.

Pat was born in Cork City, Ireland on March 13, 1936 and came to the United States in 1960. Pat served two years in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1963. Pat was employed at Pitney Bowes in Connecticut for over 30 years before retiring to Hendersonville, North Carolina. In 2006 he moved to Johnson City with his wife Nancy C. McGrath. Pat and Nancy, married for 36 years, were members of St. Mary’s church up to the time of his passing. Pat was loved by all that knew him with his positive outlook on life continuing up to his demise.

Pat leaves behind: brother Finbarr McGrath of The Villages,Fl; brother Maurice McGrath of Cork City, Ireland; sister in law Nora McGrath of Bethel, CT. He also leaves behind adopted granddaughter Renee Barger and step children Christine Marsh of Gilford, NH, Elisabeth Miller of Johnson City,TN, James Burghoff Jr. of Whitefield, NH Amy Burghoff of Greer, SC., and step grandchildren Diane Stone, Jennifer Gamzon, Craig Herbert, David Herbert, Jason Herbert, James Marsh, Jr., Jessica Miller, Catherine Miller, and Rachael Cushing.

Pat was preceded in death by his parents Catherine and Charles McGrath, brother Frank McGrath of Bethel, CT., sister Angela Morey of Ridgefield, CT., and step daughter Cynthia Hoover.

There will be no visiting hours. A memorial mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s in Johnson City Monday, January 15, 2018. In lieu of flowers please contribute to a charity of your choice.
