Roger was born in Elizabethton to the late Howard and Lorene Simerly Carver. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Loretta Deadrick.
Roger retired from Snap-On Tools and had previously driven a truck for Newton Transportation. He was a United States Army veteran and was a member of Dungan Chapel Baptist Church, where he was a former trustee of the church and was a member of the Adult Men’s Sunday School class. Roger loved to tinker with his Jeeps, enjoyed cars, loved being in in the mountains and spending time with his family and friends.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 56 years, Lois Carver, of the home; six nieces, Alice Marie Pendergast (Mike), of NC, Ann Taylor (Javy), of Elizabethton, Debbie Bishop, of Johnson City, Joyce Salyer (Roy), of Elizabethton, Lisa Pierce (Phil), of Kingsport, and Karen Southerland (Brian), of Nashville; one nephew, Michael Southerland (Joan), of Jacksonville, FL; one sister-in-law, Virginia Grindstaff, of Elizabethton; five brothers-in-law, Owen Grindstaff and wife Dee, John Lewis, Marvin Grindstaff, Bill Milhorn, and Byrd Deadrick and wife Ellen, all of Elizabethton. Several great nieces and nephews also survive, as well as two special friends, Harry B. Crowe and Bill Fritz.
A service to honor the life of Roger Carver will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Friday, January 5, 2018 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. Eric Heaton, officiating. Music will be provided by Dale Williams and Joyce Salyer. The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM until 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Friday.
The graveside service will follow in the Ensor Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be Harry B. Crowe, Byrd Deadrick, Bill Fritz, Javy Taylor, Nicholas Lyons and James Morley. Honorary pallbearers will be Dallas Williams, Glen Ensor, Ken Nidiffer, Tom Milhorn, J.B. Moreley, Brian Mathes, Greg Mathes and Tom Oxendine.
