Jack was born in Carter County to the late Boyce and Edith Miller Bailey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Hampton and Ollie Peters; his brother-in-law, Buddy Peters; and his “granny”, his wife’s grandmother, Rachel Bradshaw.
Jack had worked as a pipefitter and welder and was a member of Eastside Christian Church. He was a United States Army veteran and proudly supported St. Jude’s Hospital.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 56 years, Priscilla Madge Peters Bailey, of the home; four children, Rachel Leonard and husband Gary, of Bristol, TN, Ruthie Simpson and husband Roy, of Watauga, TN, Mark Wayne Bailey and wife Christie and Matt Bailey and wife Jamie, all of Elizabethton; 10 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; one brother, Dean Bailey and wife Launa, of Johnson City; four sisters, Brenda Colbaugh and husband Jessie, Wanda Nave, Bonnie Pruitt and husband Don, and Zelma Guy and husband Kenneth, all of Elizabethton; two brothers-in-law, Junior Peters, Elizabethton and Bill Peters, of Watauga. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to honor and celebrate the life of Jack Wayne Bailey will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Mr. Bob Allen, minister and Mr. Randall Johnson, minister, officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Wednesday; or at the residence at other times.
The graveside service will follow in the Highland Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will Dr. David Jones and the Pact Team at the V.A. Hospital, Amedysis Home Health and Michael Joe Shouse, his physical therapist.
