Norman was born in Carter County to the late Howard E. and Opal Grindstaff Gouge.
Norman retired from Raytheon in Bristol and also retired from the Tennessee Army National Guard. He was also a United States Air Force veteran where he was active in the U2 Program and had served in the Vietnam Era. Norman was a member of the Elks Lodge and the Captain Lynn F. Folsom VFW Post 2166. He enjoyed life and being with his friends and family.
Those left to cherish his memory include four sons, Bryon Gouge and wife Pamela, of Elizabethton, Gary Gouge and wife Candy, of Granite Falls, NC, Clifford Gouge and wife Linda, of Johnson City, and Michael Gouge; eight grandchildren; several great grandchildren; a sister, Sharon Compton and husband Harry, of Charlottesville, VA; a brother, Bill Gouge and wife Donna, of Mt. Holly, NC. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to honor the life of Norman E. Gouge will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Monday, September 25, 2017 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. Eric Wright, officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Monday.
The graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 12:50 PM on Tuesday.
