Friday, November 6, 2009Gail Boyd - ERWIN ERWIN – Gail A. Boyd, age 74, of Erwin, passed away Wednesday, November 4, 2009, at the Center on Aging and Health.She was a native of North Carolina and the daughter of the late Kelly and Nina Sullins Buchanan. Gail worked at Nuclear Fuel Services as a Lab Technician. Other than her parents she is preceded in death by son, Martin Boyd. Boyd through Valley Funeral Home, 1085 North Main Avenue, Erwin, Tennessee 37650. 423-743-9187 Helen Edwards - ERWIN ERWIN – Helen “Faye” Edwards, age 75, 112 Edwards Road, Flag Pond, died Thursday, November 5, 2009, at the Unicoi County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care Unit following a lengthy illness.Mrs. Edwards was a lifelong Unicoi County resident and a daughter of the late Herman and Bethel Shelton Sparks. She was retired from Morrill Electric following thirty-eight years of service. Mrs. Edwards was a fifty year member of Jennie Moore Memorial Presbyterian Church. She was a Past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Flag Pond Chapter #173. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Edwards was preceded in death by her husband of forty-three years, Raymond Edwards, in 1994; a grandson, Raymond Wayne Edwards, in 1999; one brother, Dallas Sparks; and two sisters, Inas Higgins and Geneva English. She is survived by one son, Darrell Edwards and wife, Michelle, Flag Pond; two daughters, Beverly Silvers and husband Stanley, Flag Pond, Sandra Tipton and husband, Gary, Erwin; three brothers, Clarence Sparks and wife, Mary, Edward Sparks and wife, Brenda, all of Flag Pond, and Donald Sparks and wife, Margie, Jonesborough; seven grandchildren, Amanda Benton, Myra Tipton, Matthew Wilson, Sarah Miller, Megan Briggs, Caleb Broyles and Jess Edwards; eight great-grandchildren, Ezekiel, Chevelle and Dora Benton, Chandra Edwards, Micah and Gabriel Miller, Emma Briggs and Raymond Andrew Edwards; several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted Monday, November 9, 2009, at 2:00 P.M. from Jennie Moore Memorial Presbyterian Church with Dr. Elmon Brown officiating. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to services. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Grandsons and grandsons-in-law will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends Sunday from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. in the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel and other times at the residence of a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Gary Tipton, 628 Mill Creek Road, Erwin. Leona Fishel - ERWIN ERWIN – Leona Bessie Fishel, age 88, of Erwin, passed away on Tuesday, November 3, 2009, at her home.A native of Unicoi County, she was the daughter of the late Hobart and Gustia Bailey Roberts. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by husband, Andrew Lewis Fishel; brother, Charlie Clyde Roberts; and sister and brother-in-law, Gladys Evelyn and Hillard Street. Survivors of Mrs. Fishel are: Son: Garry Lynn Fishel and wife, Helen, of CA; Daughter: Gwendolyn Ann Young and husband Charles, of Erwin; Sisters: Eulala Nadine Calhoun and husband, Joe, of Birmingham, AL, and Barbara Ann Davis and husband, Ted, of Erwin; Sister-In-Law: Helen Roberts, of VA; Grandsons: Gary Andrew Fishel and wife, Suzanne, and Brian Erik Fishel; Granddaughter: Kimberly Ann Young; Great Grandsons: Mason Fishel and Derek Fishel; Special friends: John Banner, Ben Banner and Josephine Gomes; Several Nieces and Nephews. Joyce Mitchell - GRAY Joyce Ann Mitchell, age 57, Rockingham Rd., Gray, passed away Tuesday, November 3, 2009, at Johnson City Medical Center Hospital after a short illness.She was a daughter of the late Stanley and Bonnie Boyd Gray Sr. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one son, Johnney Glenn Mitchell, of Johnson City. Eleanor Rudd - JOHNSON CITY Eleanor J. Rudd, age 66, of #4 Warrior Court, Johnson City, TN, went home to be with the Lord suddenly on Tuesday, November 3, 2009, at the Johnson City Medical Center.Born December 26, 1942, in Jackhorn, Ky., she was a daughter of Octavie Stewart Clouse, Johnson City, and the late Hayes Bentley. Mrs. Rudd had lived in Ohio for many years before moving to Johnson City. She was a member of Johnson City Baptist Temple. In addition to her father, Mrs. Rudd was preceded in death by one brother, Kenneth Bentley; and a grandson, Kyle Rudd. Survivors in addition to her mother include her husband of 48 years, Roger L. Rudd, of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Anthony Rudd and wife, Terri, Gahanna, OH; two grandsons, Tyler and Ryann Rudd, Gahanna, OH; two sisters, Sharon Tomaskevitch and husband, Joe, Moorpark, CA, Lisa Souther, Pound, VA. Many nieces, nephews, and friends who mourn her passing also survive. The funeral service for Mrs. Rudd will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. (423) 928-6111 Mason Hayes - JOHNSON CITY Mr. Hugh Mason Hayes, 74, died on November 5, 2009, at James H. Quillen VA Medical Center, Mountain Home.A native of Tom’s Creek, VA, he was a son of the late T.R. & Velva Evans Hayes. Mr. Hayes proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a graduate of Lynn View High School in Kingsport. Mr. Hayes was a District Manager with McKee Bakery for several years, retiring in 1990. Prior to this, he worked for Galbreath Bread Company in Kingsport. His family fondly recalls enjoying the “benefits” of their dad’s job. He was of the Baptist faith. An avid vegetable gardener who enjoyed sharing his produce with others, he often got his family’s assistance in growing green beans, cucumbers and tomatoes. Mr. Hayes enjoyed walking, drinking coffee, and listening to Country music. Having a big heart, his family remembers his generosity and compassion for people as well as his take-charge leadership qualities. Survivors include a daughter, Tamera H. “Tammy” Bulla, and a son, Timothy M. “Tim” Hayes, both of Johnson City; a sister, Jackie Wilson, The Villages, FL; two grandchildren, Desiree Bulla, Johnson City, and Terry Bulla, Austin, TX; three great-grandchildren, Shannon Adriana Hale, Deja Nicole Hale & Mason Wade Bulla. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Daisy Ann Smith Hayes; two brothers, Kenneth D. “Red” & Donald Hayes; and a brother-in-law, William Wilson.
