Wednesday, November 4, 2009Linda Scalf - ELIZABETHTON ELIZABETHTON – Linda M. Scalf, age 65, 739 Sugar Hollow Rd., Elizabethton, passed away Monday, November 2, 2009, at her residence following an extended illness.She was a daughter of the late Omer and Alice Wilson Pritchard and a native of Carter County. Mrs. Scalf was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church, Elizabethton, and was an RN. Mrs. Scalf was also preceded in death by her brother, Danny Pritchard. Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law: George Scalf III, Elizabethton, Jeffrey and Terrie Scalf, Jonesborough; one daughter: Rebecca Lewis, Elizabethton; five grandchildren: Christopher Scalf, Angel Fuller Hickman, Marcus Lewis, Derick Lewis and Ciara Scalf; three great-grandchildren: Kaylee Malone, Noah Hickman and Jayden Reed-Scalf; a life-long partner: Stanley Stover, Elizabethton; two brothers: Landon Pritchard, Elizabethton, Paul Pritchard, Sullivan County,; and two sisters: Edna Faye Stover, Elizabethton, and Charlotte Pritchard, Charlotte, NC. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Mrs. Scalf will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, November 5th, in the Tetrick Funeral Home Chapel of Peace with Rev. Bill Greer officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday in the chapel prior to the service. The graveside service and interment will be at 11 a.m. Friday, November 6th, in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Everyone is welcome to meet the family at 10:15 a.m. Friday at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Charles Woodruff - GRAY Mr. Charles E. Woodruff, age 92, Gray, passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 3, 2009, at his residence.Mr. Woodruff was born November 8, 1916, in Washington County, TN, and was the son of the late John & Martha Sims Woodruff. In addition to his parents, Mr. Woodruff was also preceded in death by his wife, Lois Carrier Woodruff; four brothers, Ollie Woodruff, Lonnie Woodruff, Opie Woodruff and Thomas Woodruff; and three sisters, Winnie Tester, Blanche Furches and Antionette Cloyd. He worked in roofing for 33 years and was an antique dealer for 23 years. Survivors include one daughter, Betty Peters, Gray; one son, Sonny Woodruff, Johnson City; granddaughter, Debra Peters Moore and husband, Larry, Morganton, NC; grandson, Randy Peters and wife, Carolyn, Wilmore, KY; and great granddaughter, Sopia Moore, Morganton, NC. Funeral services will be conducted at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home 7:30 p.m. Thursday, November 5, 2009, with Chaplain David Snyder officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:30 p.m. prior to service. Interment services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 6, 2009, at New Victory Methodist Cemetery. Jack Wells - JOHNSON CITY Mr. Jack H. Wells, age 95, 810 Forest Avenue, Johnson City, TN, passed away Sunday, November 1, 2009, at the Johnson City Medical Center.Mr. Wells was born on March 16, 1914, to the late Jesse J. and Agnes Morefield Wells, of Knoxville, Tennessee. Two brothers, Walter Burl Wells, Robert Lee Wells, and one sister, Mamie Ruth Wells, preceded him in death. He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-six years, Elizabeth McCallister Wells, of the home; a sister, Betty Atchley Pardue and her husband, Rev. Robert Pardue; a nephew, James A. Atchley and his wife, Valerie; a niece, Rev. Janice Atchley Cate and her husband, Rev. Herman F. Cate; three great nephews; four great great nephews; and three great great nieces, all of Knoxville, Tennessee. Mr. Wells, an active member of First United Methodist Church since 1943, served his church in many capacities, including Church School Superintendent, member of the Official Board and Church Photographer. He was an employee of ET&WNC Transportation Co. for over forty years. During this period of time he held the positions of Traveling Auditor, Terminal Engineer and District Manager of the Eastern Division. He was a member of the Johnson City Kiwanis Club with thirty-three years of perfect attendance. He was presented the distinguished George F. Hixson Fellow Award, Kiwanian of the Year Award and served many years as club photographer. He worked tirelessly recruiting workers for the clubs Pizza and Pancake projects. The Funeral Service for Jack H. Wells will be conducted at 2 PM Wednesday, November 4, 2009, in the First United Methodist Church. Rev. Garland Thayer, Dr. Angus Shaw and Rev. Tim Bracken will officiate. Music will be provided by Sandra Smith, organist, Dr. Dorman Stout Jr., vocalist and Judy Markwood, vocalist. Interment will follow in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church from 12 Noon to 2 PM Wednesday prior to the service. Active pallbearers will be Byron Alexander, Don Hembree, Aldon Speer, Johnny McCallister, Mac Hensley, Jim Williams, Chris Cate and Jim Young. The honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Alan Colyar, David Johnson, James Atchley, Ralph Garland, K.E. Wilhoit, Carl Washam, Dwight Cope, Arnold Whisnant, and members of his Kiwanis Club. Lowe, 85, Johnson City, died Monday, November 2, 2009, at Hermitage Health Center, Elizabethton.Mrs. Lowe was a Johnson County native and had lived in Johnson City since the late 1940s. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roby K. Lowe, in 1972. She was retired from Baxter Inc. Mrs. Lowe was a member of Roan Hill Baptist Church. She leaves one daughter, Doris Lowe, Johnson City; one son and his wife, Ken and Beth Lowe, Johnson City; two grandchildren, Andy Lowe and his wife, Julia, Nashville, and Richard Lowe, Johnson City; and several special cousins and sisters-in-law. The family of Mrs. Lowe will receive friends at Morris-Baker Funeral Home, Wednesday, November 4, 2009, from 5:00 PM until the 7:00 PM service time. Amanda Davis - TECUMSEH, MICH. TECUMSEH, Mich. – Amanda M. Davis, age 82 of Tecumseh, Michigan, died November 2, 2009, at Tecumseh Place Nursing Home.Friends may call from 1 p.m. until 9 p.m. Thursday at the Liedel Chapel-Martenson Family of Funeral Homes in Maybee, Michigan. Funeral services will be Friday. She will lie in state from 10:30 a.m. until a Mass at 11:30 a.m. from St. Joseph Catholic Church in Maybee. Fr. Richard Luberti will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasantview Cemetery, Petersburg. Born November 2, 1927 in Maybee, she was the daughter of William and Alberta (Wellein) Leibold. She married Robert Davis on November 18, 1947. Sadly he preceded her in death January 22, 1997. Amanda was a secretary for Wolverine Sports in Ann Arbor for 12 years until her retirement. She then worked at Montgomery Ward. Amanda was a graduate of St. Joseph Academy in Adrian, a member of the VFW Auxiliary in Maybee. She also was an avid Square Dancer, bowler and had been a Cub Scout Den Mother. Amanda is survived by her children: Timothy Edward Davis, of Ann Arbor, Donald A. (Jeanne) Davis, of Britton, Marc Davis, of Johnson City, Tennessee, Roberta Louise Davis, of Johnson City, Tennessee, Dot (Randy) Stoddard, of Saline, and Madonna Davis, of Clinton. She is also survived by a sister, Anita (Jerry) Syfert, of Sebring, Florida; fourteen grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren (with another 2 on the way); as well as a brother-in-law, David Rittinger, of Saline. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters: Loretta Kelly and Mary Lou Rittinger. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
