Paul Sherwood

Paul Justice Sherwood, age 91, 447 Ash Street, Erwin, passed away at 1:34 a.m. Thursday, November 29, 2012, at Unicoi County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care Unit.

He was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County a son of the late Arthur C. Sherwood, a Baptist Minister, and Edith Allen Sherwood.

Mr. Sherwood was a fourth generation Attorney at Law and the sole proprietor of Paul J. Sherwood Law Offices. He established the practice in 1952. Mr. Sherwood received his B.S. from East Tennessee State University and his J.D. from Vanderbilt University School of Law.

He is a member of the Tennessee Bar Association, South Carolina Bar Association, American Bar Association, Trial Lawyers Association and the Washington County Bar Association. He has been admitted to practice before the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Mr. Sherwood taught business law, income tax law, and community and corporate law at East Tennessee State University.

He often said that he attributed his success to his parents. In his free time, Mr. Sherwood enjoyed scenic photography and classical music.

He was a proud veteran, serving in the Army Air Force during World War II.

Mr. Sherwood was a lifelong devoted member of the Erwin First Baptist Church, where he served faithfully in various capacities such as Deacon, Trustee and his knowledge of the Bible made him an extraordinary Sunday School Teacher.

Other than parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers: James Sherwood, Clarence Sherwood and Sam Sherwood; two sisters: Martha Marshall and Ruth Norton.

He is survived by two sisters: Jo Sherwood, of the home, and Edith Veatch, Georgia; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral service for Mr. Sherwood will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, December 2, 2012, from the First Baptist Church. Dr. Ray Sorrells and Pastor Macil Duncan will officiate. Special music will be provided by his nephew, Will Sherwood.

Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. Sunday prior to the service at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, Organ Maintenance Fund, 200 Love Street, Erwin, Tennessee 37650.
