John VanDreumel

John Christian VanDreumel died Saturday, November 10, 2012, at the age of 86.

He was born in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, on October 9, 1926.

Mr. VanDreumel served in the Dutch Marines before immigrating to the United States in 1948.

He worked at Pusey & Jones and Diamond Ice & Coal before joining International Business Machines branch office in Wilmington, Delaware, in 1956. Mr. VanDreumel was transferred to Philadelphia as office manager and was later transferred to IBM World Trade Division in New York, where he covered South America and the Far East. He worked with IBM for thirty-five years.

On August 25, 1951, he married Deriva Ann Kreemer at the Wilmington Manor Methodist Church and they lived in New Castle, Delaware.

John and Ann both taught Sunday school and became Lay preachers in the Methodist Church and later in the Episcopal Church.

Mr. VanDreumel was a member of the Grand Lodge of Texas and served as Master of three different lodges.

He was a member of the Lions Club of Johnson City and served as District Governor in Texas in 1996 & 1997.

Mr. VanDreumel was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church and the Johnson City Seniors’ Center.

He and Ann have traveled in twenty-three foreign countries and all fifty states. They were members of the National Camping Club for many years, where John served as a chapter president and chaplain.

John and Ann have three children, a daughter, Linda, who resides in Tennessee, a son, Irvin and daughter-in-law, Sherry, who reside in New York, and a son, George, who resides in Connecticut; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Molly Hardy and Henrietta Kaan, who both reside in California; four nieces; two nephews.

A memorial service under the direction of the church will be held for John Saturday, November 17, 2012, at 1:00 P.M. at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 500 North Roan St., Johnson City, with Dr. Hal Hutchinson officiating.

Inurnment will be in West Chester, Pennsylvania, at a later date.
