A Johnson City man was charged with theft Tuesday after an incident at his sister’s home, according to a news release.

Johnson City police were originally called to a possible burglary at 2609 Browns Mill Road, Apt. 9 around 11:40 a.m. Tuesday. But police were later told that Christopher D. Colvin, 20, of the same address, had been visiting his sister, who had asked him to leave.

On his way out, Colvin grabbed a laptop computer and ran out the door, police said in the release.

He was stopped in the front yard and the computer was retrieved.

Colvin ran away and eventually jumped into the car of a nearby motorist, police said.

The driver took Colvin to the Road Runner Market, 2900 North Roan St., and called 911. Police found Colvin there and took him to the Washington County Detention Center, where he was being held on $11,000 bond.

Police said Colvin identified himself as Nikko Brown at the time of his arrest. He was asked to give his social security number and when police ran the number it was not him.

He was charged with theft over $1,000 and criminal impersonation.

His hearing was scheduled for Thursday in Sessions Court.
