When discussions at a recent City/County Liaison Committee meeting turned to the subject of the consolidation of Johnson City and Washington County schools, Johnson City Superintendent of Schools Richard Bales was a little more than surprised.
“I know they are struggling to find answers to the deficit, just as Johnson City is, so this is just one more thing I guess they want to explore,” Bales said. “Although, I think it’s not worth exploration based on what we looked at last time when this became a possibility.”

Why stop at just the school system? Let's consolidate all the crooks to one entity. If the city and county were to merge would it not save us all some money and grief? They did it in Baltimore. It reduced redundant government. Why should those in the city pay both city and county taxes, when the county provides nothing to Johnson City residents?
