Woman allegedly takes items from store

A Hampton woman was arrested Tuesday by Johnson City police after employees of Belk, 2011 N. Roan St., said she attempted to return merchandise to the store that had been stolen earlier in the day.

According a Johnson City Police Department news release, Ashley Stevens, 27, 206 Rittertown Road, Hampton, was charged after employees saw her trying to return merchandise that was valued at $540.

Stevens was charged with theft of property over $500 and taken to the Washington County Detention Center, where he was held on $5,000 bond.

She is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in Sessions Court today.
