A traffic stop led Washington County deputies to arrest an Afton woman on several drug charges Tuesday after she was found with pills, needles and other paraphernalia, Sheriff Ed Graybeal said in a news release, and additional charges resulted as more drugs were found on her in jail.

Renee B. Luttrell, 31, 35 Shanks Park, Afton, was a passenger in a vehicle stopped for a minor traffic infraction. Graybeal said deputies asked Luttrell to step out of the vehicle and inquired about whether she had anything illegal on her person.

She handed a deputy a small bag of "diverted" Diazepam pills. Searching her purse, deputies found drug paraphernalia including straws and spoons with drug residue, as well as more pills, Diazepam and Oxycodone, the sheriff said.

Luttrell was taken to the Washington County Detention Center, where a deputy advised her that any illegal item found on her would result in a separate felony charge. Luttrell pulled a small bag of marijuana from inside her pants, Graybeal reported in the release.

She was then taken inside the detention center, where she was again asked if she had anything illegal. This time, she pulled another hypodermic needle from inside her pants. Detention officers learned Luttrell also had attempted to hide a bottle containing 63 more prescription pills by partially inserting it into a body orifice, Graybeal said.

She was charged with possession of schedule II drugs and schedule IV drugs for resale, possession of drug paraphernalia, simple possession of schedule VI drugs and introduction of drugs into a penal facility. Luttrell was arraigned Wednesday in Sessions Court with a preliminary hearing set for March 7. She remained jailed on $15,000 bond.
