KINGSPORT — A medical emergency is suspected to have caused a Kingsport motorist to exit Gravely Road on Monday morning, striking a tree and a boat before coming to a stop, being transported to the hospital and pronounced dead.

Kingsport Police Department Patrolman Dustin Jackson says injuries sustained in the crash were not considered fatal by doctors, and a preexisting medical condition is likely the cause of death.

Gravely Road resident Franklin Cox, 74, is identified as the victim in the incident. At 11:37 a.m. police responded to 479 Gravely Road, The Church of Jesus Christ, where Cox's 1988 Chevrolet S-10 had entered the parking lot.
