Washington County sheriff's deputies found a wanted man driving a stolen vehicle on Thursday and also arrested his passenger.
Jason C. Hammonds, 38, 201 Browns Mill Road, was arrested after deputies stopped a white Corvette on Tenn. Highway 36 in Gray for speeding, Sheriff Ed Graybeal reported in a news release.
Records checks indicated that Hammonds was wanted on several warrants and the Corvette had been reported stolen in Bristol. Also, the tag on the car had been reported stolen in Johnson City.
Hammond was charged with possession of stolen property over $10,000, speeding, violation of the financial responsibility law and a registration violation. Warrants were served for aggravated burglary, forgery, obtaining narcotics by fraud and failure to appear in court.
His passenger, Scott E. France, 43, 190 Mary St., Gray, was charged with possession of stolen property.
Both were jailed in the Washington County Detention Center pending Sessions Court appearances today. Hammonds' bond was $191,000. France's bond was $10,000.
Hammonds also was set to appear in Criminal Court next term.

I'm so glad that criminals are too stupid not to break the law while they're breaking the law. Let's nominate these two for a Darwin Award.

Mr. Hammonds has spent about 80% of his adult life in Jail for theft ( Multiple auto and motorcycle cases). Hammonds was only out of jail for 2 months when he had a car wreck on 19e (Roan Mtn) that almost killed his-self and a driver of another car. Hammonds past shows that he should stay locked up and never let out of Jail. Put him in jail and DO NOT LET HIM OUT AGAIN !!!

Those 2 career criminals have been in the system since the early 1990's when I lived in the Tri-Cities area. They need to spend some real time in prison instead of getting plea deals and county jail time. I bet every WCSO deputy can recite Scott France's address and DOB from memory. I applaud the efforts of law enforcement for this exercise in futility.

Why was hammonds out of prison wasnt he on parloe when he had the wreck on 19E the press had an article on. that should have violated his parloe and he should have been back in prison so that he couldn't be out here stealing cars and things I'm sure theres a lot more that he didnt get caught for than what hes charged with why does he keep getting out. Ive heard that they have lowered his bond and that he is out again to steal again what is wrong with our system it took 2yrs to catch him last time he was out on bond and durring that time he stole a number of cars and motorcycles why is he out he was on parole about killed his self and another driver has failuer to appear and they think there gona lower his bond let him out and he will showup for court to go to jail look at his track record he will not show up he never does and they keep giving him a bond.

Birds of a feather flock together. Some things never change.Theses 2 are the Tri Cites most wanted thiefs,And always will be.I know quite a number of people they have stoled stuff from.Ahhh it always comes down to this ,There placed in jail than let go like a wild animal waiting to roam. I dont quite get that but oh well. Sometimes its best ta be quite than spoken.Because no1 cares ta listen. 2 birds of a feather ,they flock together and go on a stealin spree. What is there hopes,Do they any dreams,They set up camp in the jail remains ta be seen.Think they will ever learn??????? Most doubtfully not cause its in there blood to do wrong.People do change,But that person has to want to change.I see no change in theses 2. Law needs to go back to hanging and let it be publically seen.I bet that would change alot. But im just 1 voice in the wind.
