NASHVILLE (AP) — An automatic increase is giving state legislators a pay boost.

The Knoxville News Sentinel (http://bit.ly/UBHDPZ ) reported the increase of about 6.28 percent took effect Nov. 6 — the day of the general election. The new salary for lawmakers is $20,203 and it will remain fixed until the 108th Tennessee General Assembly ends in November 2014.

A 2005 statute requires automatic increases in lawmakers' pay every two years, based on raises given to state employees during that time.

The same statute calls for the House and Senate speakers to make three times what other legislators receive.

In addition, members of the legislature get $1,000 per month for a home office and a daily rate of $173 when they are meeting. They are also paid mileage for travel from home.

Oh, how nice. Actually their pay should be frozen until they come up with a budget, and figure out how to reduce spending, and quit gouging those of us who are hanging on by a thread. If taxes go up too much we're going to be in deep kimchee.

Neither side is willing to budge, then we have the oh so lovely Harry Reid promising to kill everything the House puts together. Four years and NO BUDGET PLAN, just more, and more spending. Welcome to the beginning of the NWO, Amerika.

"A 2005 statute requires automatic increases in lawmakers' pay every two years, based on raises given to state employees during that time". Wait a minute!!! During the last 2 years, state employees were only given 0.7% and 2.5% raises. Where did this 6.28% increase come from if it were based on raises given to state employees? Somebody can't do the math very well...

Vanhuss said he was going to cut taxes if he got elected. I wonder if he will decline this and be a leader or a follwer.
