A man was charged by Johnson City police with numerous traffic violations Sunday, according to a news release.
Police stopped William Derrick Reed, 41, no address given, on suspicion of driving under the influence.
A check of Reed’s record revealed he was a habitual motor offender, according to police.
Reed was charged with that and DUI, simple possession, failure to maintain control and improper lane change, police said in the release.
He was being held on $7,000 bond in the Washington County Detention Center.
A hearing was scheduled for Monday in Sessions Court.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the only way to stop these habitual offenders (DUIs) is to take away their freedom!

Honestly, that would not stop them from doing what they will do. If anything did teach them a lesson at all, there wouldn't be habitual offenders. You know they won't lock someone up over that for the rest of their lives.

I consider DUI attempted murder, if they knowingly get behind the wheel of a vehicle after drinking they know they can kill somebody. I also feel if the kill someone due to their ignorance than they should face the death penalty. That would teach them a lesson.

OffTheChain13, if you take away their freedom (lock them away somewhere, perhaps force them into treatment), it stops the behavior. Simple as that. Get with the program. I am with you Chevelle24! These drunks make a conscious decision to drink and get behind the wheel knowing full well there is the potential to kill someone while operating a motor vehicle which can be a lethal weapon. They're so wrapped up in themselves and their problems that they have no thought for how their actions effect other people. Such a large segment of our society has checked out of life and into drug and alcohol abuse. What a waste. We should find some way to help/fix these people and make them productive members of society rather than drains on the system.
