A man wanted on several felony and misdemeanor warrants was shot during a struggle with a Carter County sheriff’s deputy around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to Sheriff Chris Mathes.

According to Mathes, officers were searching for Keith Brummitt and located him near the Dollar General Store, 100 Okolona Road.

Brummitt fled on foot across Okolona Road toward Old Milligan Grocery, 1518 Milligan Highway, and officers pursued him to a wooded area behind the store.

Mathes said Brummitt continued to resist arrest and fought with one of the deputies. He said Brummitt was trying to choke the officer.

An officer fired one shot hitting Brummitt, which Mathes said appeared to be non-fatal.

Brummitt was taken to Johnson City Medical Center for treatment and the Carter County deputy was taken to Sycamore Shoals Hospital for treatment to his injuries.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation also was on scene investigating the shooting. Elizabethton police officers also assisted.

Mathes said the investigation is ongoing.

JCP,

I'm not familiar with the Family Dollar Store on the Milligan Highway. What is the address for that store?
