An incomplete toxicology report spurred the delay Tuesday of a vehicular homicide case involving the death of a Jonesborough woman.

Brandon Pickering, 21, was at the wheel and driving too fast May 10, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol report, when he ran off the road and hit a tree. The wreck killed Pickering’s fiancee, 21-year-old Brittany Jo Hankal.

The case was scheduled for a preliminary hearing in Washington County Sessions Court on Tuesday, but prosecutors don’t have a toxicology report back.

Officials do have a blood alcohol content result back, but the toxicology result would show if Pickering had any drugs in his system.

The wreck happened May 9 on Telford New Victory Road. Hankal was a passenger in Pickering’s 1987 Honda Prelude. He lost control, ran off the road and hit the tree at 1:50 a.m.

Pickering told the investigating officer that he drank two 40 ounce beers between 8 p.m. and 1 a.m., according to the crash report.

Pickering is free on a $100,000 bond. The case was reset for Oct. 23.
