A Johnson City woman was charged with child neglect after a 911 call requesting a welfare check on two children found on a city road Saturday, a police release said.

According to police, Melissa Drake, 36, 1126 College Heights Drive, was arrested after her children, ages 1 and 3, were found on a road near their residence by officers.

The investigation revealed the two children had left the residence without adult supervision. Department of Children’s Services workers responded to the scene and the two children were placed into their custody.

Drake was taken to the Washington County Detention Center, where she was being held on $10,000 bond. She is scheduled to appear in Sessions Court Monday at 9 a.m.
