Traffic charges including DUI and reckless endangerment were placed early Tuesday morning against a 29-year-old man who fled Johnson City police on a scooter, police said in a news release.

According to the report, Danny Davis, 4849 Unicoi Drive, Unicoi, was arrested after police tried to stop him for failing to stop at a four-way stop sign. After acknowledging officers, Davis and his passenger, David Jones, 20, of Johnson City, continued on, turning into the parking lot of Silver Creek Apartments.

Police said they sounded their siren, but Davis kept driving the scooter through the area. The scooter went over speed bumps, and multiple cans of beer fell out of the vehicle.

Police said Davis was driving the scooter recklessly and that he put Jones in severe danger.

Jones told police that he feared for his life when he first boarded the scooter and tried to get Davis to stop for police, but he eventually had to get off of the vehicle, causing it to turn over. Jones also told police that both he and Davis had been drinking a large amount of alcohol that day.

Police said Davis did a series of sobriety tests and he failed all of them.

Sixteen-ounce cans of beer were found around the apartment complex and police found that the scooter was not registered, the driver was uninsured and neither Davis or Jones were wearing helmets while riding the vehicle.

Davis was charged with DUI third offense, felony reckless endangerment, driving on a revoked license, felony evading arrest, helmet violation, stop-sign violation and registration violation.

He was taken to Johnson City Medical Center to be evaluated but was released and taken to the Washington County Detention Center. He had a preliminary hearing Tuesday in Sessions Court and was placed on $2,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in Sessions Court on July 10 at 9 a.m.
