Police investigating deaths of man, woman in Greene County

Greene County authorities are investigating the deaths of a man and woman whose bodies were found inside a residence at 2003 Oasis Road around 5:30 Sunday afternoon.

Johnny Heck Jr., 50, 2003 Oasis Road, was found, along with an acquaintance, 44-year-old Elizabeth Powell, 2725 Gilbreth Road. Investigators were called to the residence after family members located the bodies.

“Family members of one victim went to the residence after there was no contact from their relative for a day or so,” Detective Capt. John Huffine said. “When we entered the home, we found both victims dead of apparent gunshot wounds. Our Criminal Investigations Division processed the scene and the bodies were sent to Quillen College of Medicine at ETSU for autopsy.”

Huffine says there has been no determination at this point regarding who did the shooting in this incident or what a possible motive could be.

“They had been acquainted for a while and she occasionally stayed at the residence,” Huffine said. “Right now we have an opinion on what happened, but we are waiting on results from the autopsies before we release anything publicly. We did not request preliminary results because they can sometimes be misleading as to what the final results will be and we feel like this case is very straightforward.”

Huffine says final results from autopsies usually take at least 30 days until completion.
