The Salvation Army’s giant rummage sale is back and scheduled for next weekend at a new Elizabethton location selected to save funds for direly needed Salvation Army services.

Now in its eighth biannual run, the sale will be held Nov. 13 and 14 at the Salvation Army warehouse located directly behind the Salvation Army Thrift Store in the West Town Square shopping center.

Organizer Mattie Mullins said the sale is scheduled later in the fall than usual and bargain hunters have been calling the army to ask where and when.

“We have a lot of good bargains and people look forward to it. The community is geared for this sale and people are calling and asking for a date. So we want everyone to know the sale will be at our Elizabethton warehouse Nov. 13 and 14, starting at 8 a.m. both days,” she said.

“The Kroger building (on South Roan Street) wasn’t available to us. So we decided to have it here in our warehouse to save costs of renting a building so that more can go to Salvation Army programs, the shelter and the Angel Tree. The need is even greater with all the Angel Tree children this year. The shelter is full, and (the need for) food too.”

Volunteers have been working for more than a week to get the warehouse organized and will continue setting up displays and accepting donations daily through the first day of the sale.

Long tables packed with electronics, books, sewing machines and home decor items were just beginning to give the warehouse the look of a sales floor Monday afternoon and Mullins said a larger crowd of workers is scheduled to continue the work this morning.

“We’ve had a lot of nice donations we’re processing. And to me, it seems larger than our last sale at the Kroger building,” she said Monday as the setup progressed.

The thrift store and warehouse are located on Hudson Street directly across West Elk Avenue from Walmart. For those who wish to help, donations may be dropped off at the warehouse between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday through Nov. 13.
