Early voting begins in all area counties

Early voting for the May 6 Republican Primary for county offices begins today and runs through May 1. Remember to take some form of approved photo identification when you go to the polls. Acceptable forms of photo ID include driver’s licenses, U.S. passports and government employee identification cards. College photo IDs, however, are not accepted.Never leave a polling place without voting. Stay as long as it takes to complete the job. Every vote counts.In Washington County, voters will be asked to decide contested Republican Primary battles for county commission, county mayor, sheriff, county clerk, trustee and Circuit Court Clerk. This newspaper has endorsed incumbents County Mayor Dan Eldridge and Sheriff Ed Graybeal for re-election. We think their records and professionalism have earned them both another term in office.Area voters will also decide a number of contested primaries for judicial offices, including district attorney general, General Sessions Court judge and Criminal Court judge.Voters in Washington County can vote early at the Washington County Courthouse, 100 E. Main St., Jonesborough, ground level; Washington County-Johnson City Health Department, 219 Princeton Rd. and Gray Commons, 106 Gray Commons Circle, Gray. All early voting sites will be open 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 9.a.m.-noon on Saturdays. The sites will be closed on Good Friday.Voters in Carter County can cast early ballots at the Carter County Courthouse (second floor), 801 E. Elk Ave., Elizabethton. That site is open 9 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays, and from 9 a.m.-noon Saturdays. Voting will be conducted on Good Friday.Unicoi County county residents can vote early at the Unicoi County Election Commission Office, 106 Nolichucky Ave., Erwin. That site is open 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. weekdays, and from 9 a.m.-noon Saturdays. No polling will be conducted on Good Friday.
