KNOXVILLE — The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has arrested a Knox County Sheriff’s Office lieutenant accused of sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl, according to a TBI news release.

On Tuesday afternoon, a Knox County grand jury indicted Dennis Mills Jr. on charges of rape of a child, statutory rape by an authority figure and incest. Authorities arrested him without incident in Knoxville on Tuesday evening.

Mills was fired Tuesday night after his arrest, according to Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Martha Dooley.

The TBI began investigating the 43-year-old Powell resident on March 4, at the request of District Attorney General Randy Nichols. Nichols' office, along with the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, assisted in the investigation. Earlier, the Sheriff’s Office placed Mills on administrative leave without pay.
