Lack of reason

Staff Report • Nov 19, 2013 at 10:24 AM

In Thomas Sowell’s column of Nov. 10, he argues against the Affordable Care Act because it supports preventive medicine in including payment for annual check-ups. He uses a patently false analogy with automobile insurance, which doesn’t pay for regular oil changes. Clearly he counts on his readers’ inability to see that auto insurance doesn’t cover rebuilding engines destroyed by failure to perform regular maintenance, while medical insurance is intended to cover emergencies that could have been avoided by catching problems early and before they became emergent.Once again, Sowell places his right-wing ideology above reasoned analysis.JOEL SHIMBERGJohnson City
