East Tennessee State University Pride Week kicks off today and we can’t think of a better time to call attention to how important the university is to Johnson City and the entire region. The university provides valuable educational resources, not only to the students on its campus, but for all the people of Northeast Tennessee.ETSU provides jobs to many in our region, and these employees are often leaders in our community. The university also provides a strong identity for our area. One way ETSU does this is through the Quillen College of Medicine, where doctors are trained and key research is conducted. Another reason for pride is the continued growth of the Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy. In addition to being the region’s premiere university, ETSU has a host of unique programs — ranging from bluegrass to storytelling — to be proud of. And ETSU’s programs are not just limited to its campuses in Johnson City. Students and visitors from all over the world can marvel at the amazing fossil discoveries and learning opportunities available at the ETSU and General Shale Brick Natural History Museum in Gray. For more information on ETSU Pride Week, call the alumni office at 439-4218 or visit the university’s site at www.etsu.edu.
