Mother arrested in 'severe' abuse of 14-month-old, police seek her boyfriend

GATE CITY, Va. — A Scott County mother has been arrested in connection with the "severe abuse" of her 14-month-old son, who reportedly suffered a fractured skull, as police continue searching for her boyfriend on charges of malicious wounding. According to Scott County Sheriff John Puckett, Crystal Gail Smith, 22, of Nickelsville, Va., was arrested today. She is charged with felony child abuse and neglect. Police are attempting to locate her boyfriend, Donald Wayne Snodgrass, 29, also of Nickelsville. Puckett says he is suspected of most of the abuse inflicted on the child, who suffered black eyes and a fractured skull. Snodgrass faces charges of malicious wounding of a child and felony child abuse and neglect.
