KNOXVILLE — A homeless registered sex offender faces new charges for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman and holding her captive at knife point in a vacant Knoxville building for several hours before she could escape.

David Freeman Clay, 58, was being held in lieu of $1 million bond Wednesday night at the Knox County Detention Facility on charges of aggravated rape, especially aggravated kidnapping and violation of the state sex offender registry, according to arrest warrants.

Clay allegedly abducted the victim about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, and forced her into a building on the 1800 block of Ailor Ave. The victim later told police he strangled her, raped her and struck her head against a wall, knocking her unconscious, the warrants state.

More details on the arrest are available from the Knoxville News Sentinel.
