Children's Hospital gets $1 million from Wade Travis estate

East Tennessee Children’s Hospital got a big gift Tuesday from a one-time Big Boy owner.

The hospital received a one-time $1 million donation from the estate of Wade Travis, who with his brothers Leon and Hilliard owned the original Shoney’s Big Boy franchise for Knox and surrounding counties.

The gift came from a trust established after Travis’ death in December 2002. Trustees are in the process of distributing money to charities important to Travis, said ETCH spokeswoman Erica Estep.
