Johnson City police seized more than $1,000 in cash and a vehicle after finding four packages of marijuana in an East Main Street traffic stop Wednesday, resulting in a Mt. Carmel woman's arrest.
Brittany L. Oja, 22, 36 Bay St., Mt. Carmel, was stopped for speeding on East Main near Hilltop Road, and police smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle, police said in a news release.
Police found four separate packages of a leafy green substance preliminarily identified as marijuana, totaling about 2 ¾ ounces, in her vehicle. A baggie containing a small amount of a brownish residue was also found in one of her purses. The substance tested positive for heroin in a field test kit. Three glass pipes, a digital scale and rolling papers were also found in the vehicle, along with $1,074 cash, which was found in her change purse, police said.
Police seized her vehicle and the cash.
Oja was charged with possession of schedule VI controlled substance for resale, possession of schedule I controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, speeding and having no insurance.
She was jailed in the Washington County Detention Center on $12,000 bond pending a Sessions Court appearance today.
