ROAN MOUNTAIN — An employee who had just been fired was arrested by the Carter County Sheriff's Department on Tuesday morning on a charge of assaulting his boss.

William Wayne Robinson, 38, 304 Johnson St., was arrested by Deputy Matt Ainsworth on a charge of aggravated assault. He is scheduled to answer the charge in Sessions Court on June 3.

Ainsworth said he was dispatched to the residence of Daniel Harrah. He said Ainsworth told him he had fired Robinson for breaking company rules. Harrah told Ainsworth that Robinson became very angry and tried to "throw a punch" at him from across the counter.

Harrah said Robinston then came around the counter and grabbed a Marlin .22 caliber rifle which was there. Harrah said he knew the rifle was unloaded, but he said Robinson raised the rifle with an apparent attempt to strike him with the butt stock.

Harrah said he dialed 911 and the dispatchers convinced Robinson to put the rifle down. He said Robinson then threw the gun down and left the building.

Lt. Penny Cornett and Deputy Dave Ryan then accompanied Ainsworth to Robinson's residence. Ainsworth said Robinson admitted he had been in an argument with Harrah and to having the rifle in his hands during the altercation.
