A former employee at a Johnson City loan business was charged in connection with the generation of more than 40 fake loans for almost $20,000, according to police.

Johnson City police Tuesday charged Charlotte Ard, 414 East Mountain View Road, with theft of property over $10,000 and 46 counts of identity theft.

Police were investigating theft from Katie Cash, 3001 North Roan Street, after an audit conducted by the business discovered Ard, a former employee, had been using customer information to create fraudulent loans, police said in a news release.

The fake loans resulted in $19,826 missing from the business.

Ard was being held in the Washington County Detention Center on $20,000 bond.

She was scheduled to appear in Sessions Court Wednesday.
