KNOXVILLE - A judge today ruled that family members donning photo buttons of two torture-slaying victims must stay clear of the jury box.
Senior Judge Walter Kurtz said relatives of Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom may wear the buttons they have sported at previous trials of the accused.
However, Kurtz said if they choose to display the buttons, they must sit “two or three rows” back from the front bench and behind suspect George Thomas and his defense team.
Family members typically sit in the second row directly behind prosecutors, putting them within feet of the jury box.
