A New York man allegedly transporting $30,000 worth of heroin into the area was intercepted and arrested last week at a Bristol, Tenn., bus station.
The Sullivan County Sheriff's Office says that in November they began investigating reports of the drug being trafficked into Northeast Tennessee. Police efforts culminated last week when it was learned that Carlos Altiery, 33, of New York City, would be arriving at the Bristol Greyhound terminal with a large amount of heroin.
Sullivan County detectives were waiting on March 5 and confronted Altiery when he exited a bus. He reportedly cooperated with police and handed over a package that contained 900 separate bindles, or small folded envelopes, containing heroin. Police estimate the street value of the seized drugs at $30,000.
